The Red Pen of Doom 
The seasons are definitely uneven (a casualty of most long-running shows), but there are numerous payoffs. I think you should stick with it–even through the terrible season that threatened to go the way of Lost. Overall, the storytelling conquers the tangents.
Besides, it’s really fun to watch Rick slowly morph into Nicholas Cage.
